Softball Trading Pins

A young player on a travel team spends the weekend meeting kids from other towns, then watches them head to the next field. Custom softball trading pins let that player hand over the team name and carry another team’s design away. On the path between fields, that player and someone from the other team make the exchange and head toward different dugouts. By Sunday a hat brim holds a short row of pins from the bracket.

When the trading starts

Pin trading is a tradition at youth softball tournaments. It starts between games. Players head out with softball trading pins on a towel or a hat and swap one of theirs for one from each team they meet. A logo can open the talk, and by the next game a player may know someone from a town that had only been a name on the bracket. That exchange is the same one behind trading pins at baseball tournaments. Travel teams that reach a world series tournament bring a set along for that week of trading.

Most softball team pins put the logo or a team character large in the center, with the team name around it. The year or the age group can share that border, and many designs add the players’ numbers so the roster travels with the pin. The outline can follow a diamond or crossed bats, and we usually make these softball pins in soft enamel, where color fills the areas between raised metal lines. The finish has a textured feel and holds up through a tournament’s worth of trading.

Add-ons at the table

If you want to really make an impact, add-ons are optional extras a team can choose on top of the pin. They change the look so the pin stands out at the trading table. A softball trading pin can go bold, with bright color and big lettering, so a player from another team can pick it out across the table. Glitter catches the light when someone tips the pin up during a trade. Going larger is the upgrade that does the most for a softball team. Softball trading pins come in sizes from one and a half to three inches, and the bigger pin is what gets noticed on a towel full of pins.

A spinner turns while two players talk, and a slider rides a track across the face of the design. A dangler holds a hanging charm, a good spot for the tournament year. While the pin is in hand, a bobble wobbles on a spring and a blinker flashes a small LED once the field lights are on. Translucent color shows the metal's texture under the fill, and black metal plating darkens the raised lines. Glow-in-the-dark color stays visible after a night game.

How many and when

For a season, many teams order dozens of softball trading pins for each player. For one tournament, count the teams in the age group and the players on the roster, then order enough for each player to trade with each of those teams. Add a few extra, so a player who joins late has pins too.

Production takes 3½-4 weeks from proof approval, often sooner, plus a few days in transit to a United States address, and shipping is free. A pin with moving add-ons, such as a spinner, needs longer than that. When a tournament is close, USA rush trading pins are printed in full color at our own shop in the United States and ship much sooner, with fewer shapes and no moving add-ons.

State-shaped
pin

The outline follows the team’s home state, with softballs and a star inside the border. Players trade that shape through the weekend, and other teams can name the hometown from the silhouette.

What
goes on the pin

A softball trading pin usually carries the year and the tournament name. Players’ numbers and the age group go on too, and the pin shows whether the team plays fastpitch or slowpitch.

The
pin they want

Our designers work with the team to turn its idea into a pin that wows other players. A team can bring a logo and an inside joke to start, and those details are what make other teams ask for the pin during trading.

These answers are for team parents ordering softball trading pins for the first time.

Softball trading pins are a team’s own pin, made for players to trade with other teams at tournaments. They are usually soft enamel, with the color held between raised lines of metal.

Softball trading pin ideas include a pin shaped like the team’s home state, with the logo in the center and every player’s number around it. The year can sit on a dangler charm, and glitter or bright color helps the pin stand out on a towel. A ball or crossed bats can form the outline so the sport shows before anyone reads the lettering.

Each player needs one softball trading pin for every team in the same age division at the event. A set meant for the full season is larger, since the roster will play in more than a single weekend.

Softball trading pins can include a spinning piece, a sliding piece, a charm that hangs, a wobbling piece, or a blinking light. The surface can take glitter or a glow that shows after dark, and the metal can be darkened or covered with color you can see through.

The smallest order of custom softball trading pins is 100. Leagues and clubs ordering one design for every team start from that same number of pins.

Custom softball trading pins take 3½-4 weeks from proof approval, often sooner, plus a few days in transit to a United States address. Designs with parts that move take additional time.
